Parkinson's Disease in Patients with Essential Tremor: A Prospective Clinical and Functional Neuroimaging Assessment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Patients with essential tremor (ET) have 3.5 times greater risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD) throughout their lives, also known as PD antecedent ET (ET-PD). Single photon emission computed tomography radiotracer imaging dopamine transporters (TRODAT-SPECT) can help differentiate these two diseases. Method: Relate the results TRODAT-SPECT in patients to potential progress ET-PD. Thirty-six were evaluated by neurological examination, Archimedes spiral, and MDS-UPDRS III scale on occasions, after a mean interval three years. SPECT was performed all first visit. Results: Overall, six (16.6%) progressed clinically ET-PD older, age onset later. The group scored higher scale, especially for presence bradykinesia. altered 83.3% compared 33% (p=0.034). Changes asymmetrical hypouptake suggested (p=0.025). Conclusion: Advanced at tremor, bradykinesia, alterations may be related progression ET. neuroimaging suggest that SPECT-TRODAT used predict selected patients.

Investigation of Motor Cortical Plasticity and Corticospinal Tract Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Patients with Parkinsons Disease and Essential Tremor
Parkinson's disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET) are characterized with motor dysfunctions. Motor circuit dysfunctions can be complementarily investigated by paired associative stimulation (PAS)-induced long-term potentiation (LTP)-like plasticity and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of the corticospinal tract (CST). Three groups of twelve subjects with moderate severity PD, ET with intention t...
متن کاملFunctional anatomy of essential tremor: lessons from neuroimaging.
The neuropathogenetic processes underlying essential tremor appear to cause subtle morphologic changes in neural networks that include multiple brain structures, primarily the cerebellum, brain stem, frontal lobes, and thalamus. One of the main challenges of neuroimaging in essential tremor is differentiating disease-specific markers from the spectrum of structural changes that occur due to agi...

متن کاملA digital assessment system for evaluating kinetic tremor in essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease
BACKGROUND Spiral drawing on papers is a common tremor evaluation tool for diagnosing patients with essential tremor (ET) or Parkinson's disease (PD). No standard drawing methods and parameters that use graphic tablets are yet available for objective evaluation. METHODS This study established a tremor assessment system for tremor severity by using graphic tablets. Twelve patients with ET and ...
متن کاملNeuroimaging essentials in essential tremor: A systematic review
BACKGROUND Essential tremor is regarded to be a disease of the central nervous system. Neuroimaging is a rapidly growing field with potential benefits to both diagnostics and research. The exact role of imaging techniques with respect to essential tremor in research and clinical practice is not clear. A systematic review of the different imaging techniques in essential tremor is lacking in the ...
